4 Unusual Sustainable Meeting Initiatives
15Hatfields is one of London’s most sustainable venues. Below they share 4 of their more unusual sustainable initiatives with us:
Poseur tables and bar
15Hatfields like to keep things in the family. As we understand that being sustainable isn’t just about turning the lights off when you leave the room. We utilise our friends and family’s knowledge and skills before outsourcing to external companies. For example the bar top and poseur networking tables were all designed, built and fitted by our Event Supervisor’s Father using recycled plastics.
We carefully select all of our suppliers, and being a conference venue we understand the importance of providing good quality coffee. We chose Mozzo firstly because of its great taste, but also their commitment to the ‘Community2Community’ Fund. For every kilo of coffee that we buy from them, 5p is donated to Mzuzu, a Malawi based coffee producer. We now also grind our beans onsite each morning, which ensures we serve some of the freshest tasting coffee in London!
Seedbombs and Saplings
Each year we exhibit at Square Meal Venues and Events trade show at Old Billingsgate. We lead from the front in terms of exciting and innovative sustainable giveaways. In the past we have given out oak saplings (one of which is now growing in India), pedometers to encourage walking and most recently, seed bombs. Soak them briefly in water and throw them on the ground and they deposit wildflower seeds!
#BestinationSE1 Twitter Campaign
Social sustainability is just as important as environmental sustainability - so we like to be as active and influential within the local community as possible. As well as being key members of Better Bankside and Southbank Venues Group, we have also started out own twitter campaign, which promotes the local area. Look out for #BestinationSE1 for news, events, quirky facts and photos from our favourite London Borough.
