Sarah Roberts, our Venue Finding Consultant, recently ventured north to explore some great venues in Manchester. Famous for all things football, music and fashion, this lively city’s’ hotels and venues are extremely proud of their heritage and love to shout about all things Mancunian!
Sarah shares more about each venue below...
Macdonald Manchester Hotel
The Macdonald Manchester Hotel is accessible from Piccadilly Station and just off the A57 (M) so brilliant for travelling delegates. They have a dedicated Meeting & Event floor with 14 rooms, all with natural daylight. Their largest space - the Piccadilly suite - can hold up to 240 delegates and even has its own bar.
The bedrooms are some of the largest in Manchester, with fantastic facilities and lovely views of the city they are not to be missed. The Macdonald Manchester also boasts some of the longest corridors in Europe so make sure to wear your Fitbit and count your steps!
Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel
Towering high above street level, the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel offers panoramic views of bustling Manchester in their Level 3 Lounge & Restaurant. The Lounge & Restaurant is located on the same floor as their International Suite which can accommodate up to 800 delegates. The International Suite is perfect for both conference & social events as this space has a permanent stage and star-cloth, taking the space from day to night with ease! There are 10 other meeting rooms spread over two floors, all climate-controlled and most with natural daylight. A great property for those wanting to be right in the centre of the hustle & bustle of Piccadilly Gardens.
The Midland Hotel Manchester
Famous for where Mr Rolls met Mr Royce, The Midland offers historic meeting space with modern technology on hand. The hotel itself is located in the centre of Manchester and across the road from Manchester Oxford road station. For large events, The Midland can offer their Alexandra Suite, with capacity for 740 and a private bar it is great for banqueting. There are also a host of stunning boardrooms for more intimate meetings and the hotel prides itself on a ‘rich history of closing deals’. We were really impressed with how well the hotel presents itself, considering everything down to the marble bannister and wood panelling is listed! The Midland works closely with Jurys Inn Manchester for bedroom overflow and will always strive to accommodate large events across both properties! With a recent refurbishment, the Jurys Inn is a comfortable, modern option only a short walk away.
The Principal Manchester
Centrally located and bursting with history, the Principal Manchester is a stunning venue for any event. We stayed overnight in one of their Junior Suites and got to experience the tapas-style dinner menu first-hand. It was great food and an even better atmosphere in their Refuge Restaurant! The Principal Manchester has the largest ballroom in the North-West of England so can offer great space for large events – with separate entrances they can also offer the ‘exclusive use’ feel. Not only can Principal do super-size, but their Clock Tower Boardrooms are stunning and packed full of great technology. Definitely worth thinking about if you want the wow factor. All of Principal’s spaces are packed full of quirky touches – record players, photos, paintings and architecture. It was great to experience a hotel that is truly proud to be part of Manchester’s heritage.
Crowne Plaza Oxford Road & Staybridge Suites
This property is new within the Manchester-scene but not to be overlooked. Situated within the academic quarter of the city, Crowne Plaza Oxford Road can offer 7 meeting rooms on a dedicated conference floor.
All named after famous Mancunians, the rooms are equipped with drop-down projectors, speakers, microphones and nearly all have natural daylight. We felt like this was a true ‘no-fuss’ venue as the refreshment areas were within reaching distance and staff always on hand. Built on top of the Crowne Plaza are the Staybridge Suites. Aiming to be a home-from-home for long staying delegates, these rooms were well-equipped and comfortable. We think they would be a great option for a VIP, conference organiser or speaker who would benefit from some privacy during a long conference.
Holiday Inn Manchester City Centre
The clue is in the name with this venue – located right in heart of Manchester, Holiday Inn Manchester City Centre can be accessed with ease. The hotel has 12 meeting spaces to offer, all equipped with great technology and attached to an ‘open lobby’ where refreshments and comfy seating are on offer.
Food rules all and their conference lunch looked amazing. Each day has a different theme and offers a wide range of choice for all delegates. Something to remember is that the hotel is right on the canal. They have a hidden gem of a terrace, perfect for BBQs or drinks receptions after a busy day! The hotel are happy to organise food stalls or music to create a lively atmosphere.
Hotel Indigo Manchester
If you’re looking for a boutique-style hotel with great facilities and lots of character, look no further than Hotel Indigo Manchester. The hotel has 187 bedrooms on-site but the layout of the property means it feels more like 50 bedrooms! All rooms have a specific theme, celebrating Manchester’s deep roots in the tea and textile industries. We were really pleasantly surprised by how spacious the bedrooms were and the high quality products and facilities included. Hotel Indigo Manchester pride themselves on being a hub for creative individuals and those looking to experience a modern, vibrant atmosphere.
