Spotlight on: Stockholm

Venue Finding

Sarah Roberts, our Venue Finding Consultant, recently spent the weekend in the beautiful city of Stockholm, hosted by Nordic Choice. Stockholm is an amazing blend of old and new, with great restaurants and focused on all things Fika!

Below Sarah shares her destination download…

How To Get There

We flew with Norwegian Airlines from London Gatwick to Arlanda Airport. LGW has ample parking and great trainlines from central London. The flight time was just under 2 hours 20 minutes. The onward journey from ARL was unbelievably smooth - just 40 minutes on the Arlanda Express train and you are in the heart of Stockholm centre. The train itself is modern and clean, with plenty of charge points and friendly staff. Stockholm has great transport links, with trams, buses and taxis available. Stockholm also has Uber available too.

What To Do

Whilst Stockholm is made up of 14 islands, it is really easy to get around and there is something to do at every turn. If you’re looking to soak up some history, head towards Vasa museum or Nordiska Museet, the Nordic museum. You could take a walking tasting tour of Gamla Stan (an area of the old town) – some traditional Fika is always a great talking point!

Stockholm can also offer great team building activities for the thrill seekers – opt for a RIB boat ride to get the heart rates up and laugh at one another in the head-to-toe safety suits! On our FAM trip, our RIB boat ride was organised by DMC Sweden. It took us around the archipelagos and showed off a handful of the some 30,000 rocky islands close to Stockholm. This was super fun and a great icebreaker!

We experienced lots of lovely cafes and restaurants whilst in Stockholm. All the venues we visited were keen to show off their ‘sharing style’ menus to enhance the group experience, whilst show casing traditional Swedish delights. Something we are keen to highlight is how amazing the whole city seemed to be at catering for dietary requirements – within the FAM trip group there were a couple of allergies and intolerances and all were catered for and never missed out! A great bonus in our eyes!

Conference and Events

As our trip was organised by Nordic Choice, we were shown numerous properties within their portfolio with event space. Here are some of our favourites and why:

1. Clarion Hotel Stockholm

Conference space for over 1,000 people total, with high spec AV in their largest space suitable for 500 people. Plenty of natural daylight, with views of green spaces and the highway (which runs underneath the hotel itself!). Unique spaces available to hire too, including the basement of the hotel – whilst we were there they were setting up for a private party with DJ & theming.

2. Clarion Hotel Sign

Amazing location in central Stockholm and walking distance from Stockholm Central Station. Ten conference spaces with space for 1,200 in total with 700 in the largest space. Plenty of social spaces, including a terrace bar and rooftop pool. Hotel Sign has a green initiative and boasts a rooftop full of solar panels and a gym that has ‘green machines’ – the more you use them, the more energy you are producing for the city!

This is a new property which has lots of to offer. It is a luxury-feel hotel with flexible pricing. There is a dedicated events floor with nine spaces available to hire. The largest space can host up to 300 people, has a fixed stage and great AV available. Smaller breakout spaces are located right outside, as is the light and airy catering area. 5. Hotel C Stockholm

Hotel C is a stone’s throw from Stockholm Central Station, so very accessible if taking the Arlanda Express from the airport. This is a compact property suitable for events up to 90 people with 10 meeting rooms on-site. One of Hotel C’s USPs is that they can offer ice-sculpting as a team building activity within their very own ICEBAR! Their bar is the first permanent ice bar in Europe and is re-designed every year so keep your eyes peeled for next year’s theme!
